Why Sign Up for Hulu?
- Some videos on Hulu can be watched without registering for an account. However, you will notice that any movie that is rated "R" or TV shows rated at TV-14 or TV-MA require you to verify your age with a Hulu account before the video plays. If you plan to watch any content intended for mature audiences on Hulu, you have to create an account.
- Registering for Hulu does not prevent advertisements from loading, but you can personalize what is being advertised during your viewing. As commercials play, Hulu displays the question "Is this advertisement relevant to you?" with "Yes" or "No" buttons. Sometimes a survey appears asking what kind of advertisements you are interested in watching. As you answer these surveys, Hulu learns what products you are interested in and provide only advertisements geared toward your interests.
Rating and Comments
- Registering for a Hulu account allows you to rate and comment on videos. This helps Hulu recommend other TV shows and gives you a chance to voice your opinion to other members on the site.
- Hulu has a premium service called Hulu Plus. It works similarly to the free version of the site, but offers full seasons of many TV shows and additional titles not available to non-paid users. Video can be streamed to Apple portable devices, including iPads and iPhones, as well as select Blu-ray players and HDTVs with a "Hulu Plus" app included. As of the time of this writing, membership for Hulu Plus costs $7.99 a month. It is worth noting that despite the paid membership, Hulu Plus users still have to watch advertisements.
